Generous funding from the Wenner-Gren Foundation has been awarded to support the participation of scholars from the developing world in the Proto-Globalisation in the Indian Ocean World Conference.  This includes two bursaries for early career researchers, to be awarded through an open competition.  The bursaries will cover travel to Oxford, accommodation (5 nights), subsistence and the conference fee for the period 6-11 November 2013.

Early career scholars (post-doctoral or junior lecturer/professor level) from Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia who are studying early Indian Ocean contacts and commerce are encouraged to apply.

If you are interested in applying for the bursary, please send a full CV, cover letter, and abstract and title of the presentation you would give if awarded the bursary (max. 400 words, excluding references).

Potential applicants are strongly advised to read more about the conference before applying (see link below).  Applicants are particularly advised to take note of the conference themes outlined in the document ‘Outline of Conference Sessions’ (available to download on the conference webpage).  The Bursary Committee will take note of the degree to which the proposed talk fits with one or more of the conference themes.

Deadline:  Friday 17 May, 2013

Format: Please send the application (see details above) as a single document, ideally in pdf format.  Do not send the CV, cover letter and abstract as separate documents.

Email: Please send applications to Lucy Palmer (lucy.palmer@rlaha.ox.ac.uk).
